Questions families ask
How is this different from home health after a stroke?
Home health is medical care — nurses and physical, occupational, and speech therapists sent under a doctor's order, usually for short visits a few times a week. We are non-medical Personal Assistance Services, Texas license #020448. Our caregivers fill the daily hours in between with bathing, dressing, meals, transfers, and supervision. Most recovering families need both, and we work alongside home health teams every day.
Can a caregiver be in place by discharge day?
Usually, yes — care can often start within 24 hours. We can do the free assessment at the hospital or rehab facility before discharge, so the care plan, schedule, and caregiver introduction are settled before your parent walks back through their own front door.
Will the caregiver help with therapy exercises?
As an encourager, not an instructor. The caregiver can remind your parent it is exercise time, set up the space, and stay close for steadiness during the walking the therapist assigned. Caregivers do not teach, correct, or progress exercises — that is the therapist's role, and we stay in our lane.
My mother's speech and memory changed. How do caregivers handle that?
With patience and consistency. The same caregiver comes each visit, learns how your mother communicates now, allows time for words, and never talks over or around her. Anything new or concerning is reported to your family the same day so you can raise it with her care team.
Recovery needs change week to week. Can the hours change too?
Yes. Many families start with long days right after discharge, then taper down as strength returns — a full day becomes a morning visit, and a morning visit becomes a few days a week. There are no contracts, so the plan can be adjusted as your parent gets stronger.
Does heavier care after a stroke cost a higher rate?
No. Transfers, hygiene help, and close supervision are exactly what levels-of-care agencies charge extra for. We have no care levels. The hourly rate stays the same whatever the tasks, and only the hours you schedule set the cost.
