How care gets started — and how fast
Most families call us on a hard day, with no idea what happens next. Here is the whole process, start to finish. It is simpler than you expect, and it can move fast when it needs to.
Four steps: you call, we visit for a free assessment, we build a care plan together, and care begins — often within 24 hours. No contracts at any point. Here is what each step actually looks like.
Not sure where to start? Most families aren’t.
- Call us We answer, listen, and tell you honestly whether in-home care fits your situation.
- Free in-home assessment We visit, meet your loved one, and build a care plan together — at no cost and with no obligation.
- Care begins Often within 24 hours. We match a caregiver to your loved one's needs, routine, and personality.
Step 1: You call, and a person answers
Call (214) 550-6533 — or the local line for Gainesville. Tell us what happened: the fall, the diagnosis, the discharge date, or just the growing feeling that Mom shouldn't be alone all day.
On that first call we will ask a few practical questions — who needs care, where they live, what kind of help you think they need, and how soon. Then we give you a straight answer about whether non-medical in-home care fits your situation. We are a licensed Personal Assistance Services agency, not a medical provider, so if your loved one needs skilled nursing or home health, we will say so and point you in the right direction. If we are the right fit, we schedule the assessment — often for the same day or the next.
Step 2: The free in-home assessment
One of our team comes to your loved one's home — or to the hospital or facility, if that is where they are now. The visit is free, and there is no obligation to move forward afterward. We sit down with your loved one and your family and cover:
- Daily routines — mornings, meals, bathing, dressing, bedtime, and where help is needed most.
- Mobility — how they get around the house, transfers in and out of bed or chairs, and any trouble spots like stairs or bathrooms.
- The home itself — lighting, clutter, rugs, and other trip hazards worth addressing.
- Health context — conditions like dementia or Parkinson's that shape how care should be delivered, plus medication reminder needs. (We remind; we do not administer.)
- Preferences and personality — what your loved one enjoys, what they are private about, and what kind of person they would actually welcome into their home.
- Schedule and budget — how many hours make sense (our minimum visit is four hours) and what that costs. Our rates are published, so there are no surprises.
Step 3: We build the care plan together
From the assessment we write a simple care plan: which tasks the caregiver handles, on which days, at which hours, at what price. You approve it before anything starts — and nothing about it is locked in. There are no contracts, no required number of weeks, and no penalty for changing your mind. Because we do not use "levels of care" pricing, the rate in your plan does not rise later if your loved one's needs increase.
This is also where caregiver matching happens. We propose a caregiver based on your loved one's needs, schedule, and personality — every one of them criminally background-checked. If the match is not right — at the start or six months in — request a different caregiver and we will make the change. No hurt feelings, no process to fight through.
Step 4: Care begins — often within 24 hours
Once you approve the plan, care starts fast — often within 24 hours of your first call, including after a hospital discharge. If your parent is being discharged this week, we can meet you at the hospital, attend the discharge conversation, and have a caregiver at the house for the first night home.
Changing the schedule later
Life with an aging parent does not hold still, and your schedule shouldn't have to. Need to add a morning, drop a Thursday, or shift to overnights after a rough week? Call the office and we adjust the schedule. Care plans are built around your loved one's routine, and schedules can be adjusted as needs change. Many families begin with a few visits a week and change things several times in the first month. That is normal, and it is exactly how this is supposed to work.
